Finding a happy medium: 4 tips for a nontraditional Mother’s Day

Before our daughter, Bailey moved out of state—and after her dad and I relocated to Northern Arizona—she commuted three hours that first Mother’s Day and we hung out at our cabin for the weekend. Once she was living in Colorado, however, the second year we celebrated over FaceTime. Unfortunately, this year logistics forced us to look for a happy medium. But thanks to the internet, we quickly compiled a list of ideas to choose from. If you’re looking for ways to bridge the long-distance gap on Mother’s Day, here are four tips to get you started: 1) attend an online class together, 2) enjoy a virtual paint & sip, 3) have a Netflix party, or 4) make an old-fashioned phone call and take a walk. Bailey and I ordered paint-by-number kits and are also planning a stroll through our respective neighborhoods. Though I’d love nothing more than a real-time visit, I’m grateful for happy mediums.

How have you celebrated a special day in a nontraditional way?
