When all else fails: hitting the trails

Change your mind, change your life isn’t just a trite phrase because the mind is one area in our lives we can control. A few weeks ago, I coined an expression that ranks right up there with how my husband Bob, and I initiate change: When all else fails, hit the trails. This statement, though unoriginal, resonates with the season of uncertainty in which we’re embroiled. The transformation begins when our boots hit the rocky soil as we navigate the now familiar, well-worth paths we’ve trekked during our three-year adventure in Northern Arizona’s Rim Country. While the packed dirt cushions the impact and our treads scale the uneven terrain, the day’s concerns dissipate and our psyches are altered as we center our thoughts on pushing to the next water break, the next incline, the next refreshing gust of wind that cools our exertion-soaked skin. And when we return hours later, we’re better able to tackle life’s unknowns.

How has a change in attitude or surroundings changed your life?
