When God seems silent: quieting the noise
Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God. ~ Psalm 41:11
The other afternoon, my husband shared an observation: “God’s been silent…” Though I was quick to remind him of the Lord’s divine interruption several years prior, which I recount in Guideposts’ upcoming new series—Too Amazing for Coincidence—Bob wasn’t wrong. While I’ve often sensed a holy prompting in my spirit since that time, His still small voice remains mostly indiscernible. Yet I can’t blame God because He promises to draw near to those who draw near to Him. And I soon realized my daily prayers had become a laundry list of noisy requests and complaints, rather than a give-and-take conversation with a friend. But I’m thankful that during these seasons we can turn to Psalm 42:11 and be reminded to keep seeking, remembering His faithfulness, and hoping in Him.
How do you react when God seems silent?
