The long haul: do not grow weary

So let us not grow weary in doing what is right,
for we will reap at harvest time, if we do not give up. ~ Galatians 6:9

Recently, I read a devotion that talked about changing how we view our problems. Instead of looking at them in their entirety, the author suggested taking one action step at a time toward a solution. I can relate when recalling our move to Northern Arizona and #cabinlife, and how our list of issues and wishes overwhelmed us until we’d become weary and wanted to give up (fight-or-flight is a real thing!). So for my husband and me, it meant adopting a “long-haul” mindset—we plan to live on the mountain for the long haul, and that’s probably how long it will take to work through our list. It’s slow going. But once we made up our minds to not give up, we’ve continued to reap some kind of progress. One (action) step at a time.

What causes you the most weariness?

    Smart idea to take a little at a time. We are still working on things that need to get done here at the farm 27 years later. Perhaps someday they will get done.

    What causes me the most weariness, though, is my job. It is disheartening to see so many K-6 students be disrespectful to the teachers and staff, feel that violence and bullying are okay, and use language that is not suitable for youth (well, really anyone for that matter). I try to focus on at least one highlight each day and reflect back as to why I was needed to be at that school on that particular day.

      Your post about working on the farm 27 years later encourages me. 5 ½ months and counting 😉
      But I’m sad to hear about your job-related weariness. It is incredibly disheartening to hear what you encounter, but focusing on one highlight each day and how you made a difference is a wonderful tactic.
