Choosing better over bitter: the tests within the testimonies
On Aug. 19, 2004, my family’s life was forever changed. Nineteen years ago, a drunk driver slammed into my husband, Bob’s vehicle. Yet despite his chronic pain—and the deficits caused by a traumatic brain injury and broken bones—Bob’s story doesn’t end there. It lives on each year I climb atop my soapbox. It lives on in his testimony. And it lives on in my writing. This past spring, Content magazine published a funny anecdote I shared from Bob’s post-accident inpatient stay, which I condensed here. Guideposts will also be publishing our story in their new book: Exploring God’s Promises: Hope (releases February 2024). When we encounter problems and trials, we all have a choice to either become bitter or better. Is it easy? No. But that’s because without a test, we have no testimony. If you’d like to hear how God worked good out of what the enemy meant for our harm, I’m always happy to share. And remember: don’t drink and drive.
What’s your testimony?
