Grateful, thankful, blessed: finding joy in the midst of pain
You make known to me the path of life; in Your presence there is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore. ~ Psalm 16:11
This week, many of us are preparing for celebrations with family and friends, while others are feeling less than festive. Perhaps you fall into the latter category and you’re carrying the weight of sorrow rather than excitement. A devotional I read recently mentioned how the holidays can feel like a spotlight illuminating all that hasn’t turned out as planned. I know when I’m struggling, it’s hard to find joy. This is when it’s important to remind ourselves that the joy God offers isn’t tied to our circumstances. Instead, it’s found in His presence—even in the midst of our pain. The verse above doesn’t negate the reality of our struggles or pretend we’re not suffering. But it assures us that when we draw near to God, even during our heartache, there’s joy in His presence.
What brings you joy this season?
