Day in the life: when the unexpected happens, yell ‘plot twist’ and move on

On Sunday evening, my real-life prince entered our bedroom with his palm extended. “This isn’t good,” he said. My eyes shifted to what looked like a tooth in the center of his hand. After a reduced holiday workload, visions of my Monday morning plans at my desk dissolved and I mentally yelled “plot twist!” The following day, with snow in the weekly forecast, we accepted an early afternoon appointment at our dental provider located 125+ miles from our little cabin in the woods. However, rather than work while my husband, Bob reclaimed his royal crown, I basked in the Phoenix sunshine reading at a nearby park. It was during the 10-hour day, after years of second-guessing our move to Northern Arizona, when I realized how much I appreciate our forest retreat. Funny how it simply took an unexpected change of plans to remind me of the reasons we relocated in the first place. And a day later, I’m back to work!

How well do you handle unexpected twists?
