The power to take flight: ‘What if?’
One of a writer’s tools includes asking the what if question, and then throwing our characters under the bus (sometimes literally). I ask myself the what if question often. Not just on paper for the stories I tell, but when it comes to my life as a whole of its sum parts. For example, what if I get stuck on past failures or present-day successes and wind up standing still? In his book, “Start Ugly,” David duChemin says, “creativity is more the stuff of hard work and courage than it is the stuff of magic. And if there is magic at all to be found, it’s in starting.” Even if you don’t consider yourself a creative, what if you apply this mentality to your goals and dreams? What if future transformation waits around the next corner? I don’t know about you, but I never want to regret the what ifs I neglected to give wings to.
What if you did that one thing your dreams are made of?
