Sticking to the plan: a surprise twist

In my post “Rerouting course: weighing the options,” I share how a change in plans may necessitate revisiting and weighing the options available to us. And in the case of the upcoming vacation my husband and I planned, it showed up as an unexpected closure of a forest preserve — which ranked No. 1 on our list of priorities. This resulted in three choices: 1) cancel or postpone; 2) change plans altogether or 3) maintain the original destination. All three options meant reframing our expectations, with the possibility of a complete course correction. Our decision? To stick with the original destination, while understanding it would look a lot different. But then 10 days before our departure date, we discovered a surprise twist. Check back next week to read about Day 1 of our weeklong getaway, and how one small correction of our expectations (aka mindset) can transform a harrowing drive through torrential rains into the getaway of a lifetime.

When did staying the course turn out good for you?
