Catching up: permission to rest
I noticed it over a month ago during my morning walk: a tree in our neighborhood sporting a colorful top hat. In addition, the coniferous tree needles have turned into shades of brown and gold before dropping to the ground. And the morning temps on the mountain reflect the nighttime lows dipping into the 20s. While I’m enjoying the change of seasons, I’m also filled with a touch of trepidation. It’s been years since I’ve experienced the adventure of a real winter. Admittedly, I’ve even avoided visiting family and friends in the Midwest whenever the mercury drops below 60. Now here I am, beginning to swap out my summer and fall wear for cozy sweaters and long johns. Yet, I’m excited for my first white Christmas in more than two decades. But most of all, I eagerly anticipate a season of hibernation, much like the dormant trees—by catching up on my rest as I prepare for the new year.
How do you incorporate rest into your days?
