Where the real work happens: making the most of your ‘not yet’
In my inaugural post of 2023, I feel obligated to say something meaningful as we usher in the new year, so here goes: If you’re like me, and living in the space of “not yet”—waiting for your health to improve, your bank account to multiply, your job situation to change, to take that dream vacation, to retire or publish your first novel, lose weight or [fill-in-the-blank]—I have good news! “Not yet” might be disguised as a safety net. Huh? Okay, imagine you’re a newbie at the gym, and the first day you try to bench press three times your body weight. Your coach would likely shout: “Not yet!” Right? So rather than lament the “not yet,” I suggest turning it into “what if,” instead. What if you trust you’re right where you’re supposed to be—a training ground, of sorts (like that gym newbie)? That way, when you eventually move out of the “not yet,” the prep work is complete.
Care to share your “not yet?”
