Contingency mindset: backing up your best laid plans
When my husband and I moved to Northern Arizona’s Rim Country a year ago, we already had an unlimited data plan for our phones, so reliable Wi-Fi was our biggest concern for internet usage. We received provider suggestions from others who reside in our community (population 599) and settled on one that has kept us online more often than not. However, a couple times in the past 11 months, weather-related outages have occurred. Thankfully, we’ve been able to initiate our mobile hotspots to pick up the slack. Then, during one of our storms, we weren’t able to make it to town when we’d originally planned. But because we buy a few pantry extras each time we shop, we were stocked up until the next time we drove into town. And on the few occasions our power has gone out, our generator kicked on automatically. You know what they say about the best laid plans? That’s when a backup comes in handy.
Where could you use a contingency plan?
