Every story has already been told: bringing something fresh to the table
Today I’m talking about my latest five-minute romance featured in Woman’s World magazine’s Nov. 6 issue (on sale now!). The idea for A Surprise Invitation was sparked not long after our neighbors joined my husband and me for dinner earlier this fall. As I brainstormed ideas, I thought: What if a couple invites their widowed neighbor and their male friend for dinner, but they run into each other enroute? While Anna Quindlen is correct that “every story has already been told,” it’s also true that “each writer brings to the table, if she will let herself, something that no one else…has ever had.” Case in point: the banter between my two supposed strangers was inspired from another real-life conversation of mine. If you pick up a copy of the magazine, I’d love to hear your thoughts about Maggie and Eddie’s story. And in case you’re wondering, he parked his vehicle in the cul-de-sac to avoid the couple’s steep driveway.
What unique something would you bring to the table?
