A hedge of protection: standing guard

Last year, I began the daily practice of prayer walks that include reciting scripture, petitioning the Lord, and praying for a “hedge of protection” around our property and community. When we first moved into our little cabin in the woods, we soon discovered we share our home with the forest wildlife that had come before us. Although we’ve learned to cohabitate with the elk that eat our plantings and the birds that build nests in our rafters, we refused to let the woodpeckers continue their assault on our siding. A fresh coat of paint has proven a blessed deterrent, as well as a reminder to stand guard against the enemy—not just those in the physical realm, but the spiritual adversary of our souls who comes to steal, kill and destroy (John 10:10). While Bob and I remain diligent to protect our property, it’s even more important to stand guard against the evil one’s tactics as old as time.

What types of enemy attacks are you up against?
