A cloud of witnesses: running the race
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses…let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. ~ Hebrews 12:1-2 NIV
This Bible verse compares the Christian life to running a race, or more accurately, a marathon. Which translates to persevering in our faith with stamina, commitment and discipline— especially in difficult times. And from what I understand, this cloud of witnesses is the “saints” (aka support team) who’ve gone before us. During the final stretch of my recent race to the finish line (e.g., editorial deadline) with revisions on my second book, THE FIRE CHIEF’S SURPRISE, I requested prayer from friends and family—my personal “cloud of witnesses.” Not only did I feel seen, heard and supported amidst a mostly solitary undertaking, but I also slid into the finish line on time. A bit breathless, yet ready for the next lap.
When did you feel like you were running a race?
