Counting our blessings: the have’s vs. the have nots

It’s been a minute since I’ve counted my blessings beyond the three things I jot in my gratitude journal each morning. Which spurred me on to thinking how often I focus on the “have nots,” while failing to acknowledge the “have’s.” Like filtered drinking water (thank you, Brita!) and the sun’s warmth on a brisk Tuesday afternoon. Or the resident fox we’re lucky enough to spot when he drops by our property. Plus working internet (after three days of spotty service), a backyard forest of changing colors to explore, a daughter who still reaches out for advice or a sounding board at 32, a job I adore and a heart that—despite a defect—continues to beat strong as it carries me up and down mountain trails and swells with excitement whenever my husband, Bob and I plan our next adventure. Last but not least, a faith in the God who strengthens me for life’s challenges and fills me with joy.

What’s one “have” you’re grateful for today?
