Goodbye grouchy: hello gratitude

One day last week, I awakened with a grouchy attitude, my furrowed brow attesting to a less-than sparkly persona. Upon brewing my first cup of dark roast, I wrapped a blanket around myself and settled at our kitchen table to begin my morning pages — a practice taught by author Julia Cameron. Typically, I start with rambling that highlights the previous day, before my right brain flows at will. Many insights, blog posts, emails and story ideas commence within this part diary, part prayer journal, part brain dump space — ultimately making room for a less-cluttered mind. On this day, however, grumbles poured onto the page, but soon morphed into appreciation for tangible and intangible blessings, lifting my spirits and softening the skin between my eyes. Yet it came as no surprise when the devotional I pulled up next read: “Overcoming the habit of complaining.”

What are you grateful for today?
