Summer blog series: extending hope through the gift of laughter
Humor is hope’s companion in arms. ~ Ogden Nash
Welcome to week no. 3 of my summer blog series! In the first two posts, I talked about extending hope through words of encouragement and acts of service. Today, I share how humor produced hope after my husband, Bob’s near-fatal car accident. As many readers know, Bob was hit by a drunk driver in 2004, which resulted in multiple injuries and months of rehabilitation. One day during his inpatient rehab, he opted to lean on his hard-won independence by utilizing the restroom without assistance. But soon his pleas could be heard from behind the closed door. “Help…help!” After peeking in, I discovered his wheelchair wedged between the far wall and the toilet. The relief on his face upon his rescue paved the way for a burst of contagious giggles—a balm to both of our spirits and a reminder that hope is found in the healing gift of laughter.
What funny story can you share to give someone hope?
