Planning for a new year: incremental changes that add up
As I planned for the new year, I considered how to set myself up for a successful 2024. For those armed with big “resolutions,” I applaud you. But for the majority of Americans who make resolutions, researchers noted in an article published by Ohio State University suggest that only 9% complete them. Further, 23% of people quit their resolution by the end of the first week, and 43% quit by the end of January. Those numbers discouraged me, so rather than make my own, I opted to add one small change to my daily routine in October, and then another on top of that in November. When Jan. 1 arrived, I continued to build on each week with incremental changes to keep it manageable. It started with adding a new supplement to my diet, then daily strength-training workouts. The key is to take it one goal—or change—at a time. And keep showing up.
What changes do you plan to make in the days and weeks ahead?
