Transplant shock: handling transition
Whether it’s a new town, home, vocation or church or even where you shop for groceries—or all of the above!)—transplant shock is a thing (access my latest email on that topic here). As my husband and I adapt to all the “new” in our lives, I’ve discovered something: routine no longer supports me in the same way. I’m also not the same person, either. I’m semi-retired and my own boss, and we live in a vastly different environment. So it stands to reason that what worked before may not work anymore. Case in point: our little cabin in the woods came furnished, but we found ourselves trying to work around the status quo. We decided to remove whatever seemed awkward and rearrange what made sense. Starting over can be painful, yet it can also afford us ways to think outside the box by turning “what ifs” into reality. If we don’t like it, we’ll simply try something else.
What tips do you employ to handle transition?
