Leaving a legacy of love: intangible expressions that promote life
Where there is love, there is life. ~ Mahatma Gandhi
One of my favorite descriptions of love is found in the Bible: “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres” (1 Corinthians 13:4-7). According to Google, the average dollar amount spent on Valentine’s Day in 2021 was $164.76 per person. This got me thinking: instead of tangible displays of love, what if we focused on intangible expressions—toward family, friends and strangers, alike? And not just on one day, but all 365 days per year? Think of the legacy we’d leave behind if we practiced these ancient tenets inscribed thousands of years ago. Afterall, flowers wither away, but love promotes life eternal.
